2nd Symposium on Ambulatory Anesthesia and Analgesia Zurich 2019

Dear Colleagues,

Outpatient surgery outside of bigger operative centers is becoming more and more important. There is a definite trend towards performing minor surgical procedures in doctor’s offices and day hospitals. It also becomes more and more possible to operate on patients who need enhanced anesthesiologic care. One reason for this trend is economical. At the same time, the developments of new, less invasive and more tolerable techniques encourage this shift.

The Symposium on Ambulatory Anesthesia and Analgesia (AAA) focuses on this development and wants to pay service to the needs that are arising. The first instalment in 2017 gave an overview over all the specialty fields, including the surgical aspect. It was received with great interest.
AAA 2019 will be supported by the international Society for Ambulatory Anesthesia (SAMBA) and its members, as well as the members of the European Society of Anesthesiology (ESA) with the intention to cover all the specifics of ambulatory surgery. For this purpose, respected and experienced colleagues and lecturers have been invited to present their knowledge. The program of 2019 covers almost all relevant procedures and problems.

Lectures will be divided into 3 main topics:
•       preoperative assessment, preparation of the surgical patient
•       intraoperative period
•       immediate postoperative supervision and management

New topics to be touched will:
•       logistics and functionality of an ambulatory surgery and anesthesia setup
•       criteria of home discharge after each kind of procedure
•       the place of the high-risk patient on the operating list of an ambulatory institution
•       chronic pain management
•       pediatric anesthesia

Workshops:
•       Jetventilation – a new instrument
•       Ultrasound-guided regional anesthesia
•       Peribulbar or sub-Tenon's blocks

We intend to have a nursing session, in which we will offer the podium to health care workers to discuss the place of the nurse in this specific setup.
